________________________________________________________________________________ // : || ~ ~ : |-------> F I L M - P H I L O S O P H Y Internet Salon (ISSN 1466-4615) http://www.film-philosophy.com <-------| : ~ ~ || : \\ Suddenly he'll say something to you, or you'll see how he creates a shot, and you'll realise this man is different, this man is profound. And it seems without effort. And you come out of this experience and realise the possibilities of film, the possibilities of how to communicate ideas and concepts in a way that you never thought. -- Tom Cruise on Stanley Kubrick _Film-Philosophy_, founded in November 1996, is an internet salon which exists to promote and discuss the future of serious film study -- both by rethinking the concepts of current film theory, and by calling on the work of both continental and analytical philosophy. It is a genuinely active web-publication, where scholarly review articles (epublished weekly) can be immediately responded to in the email salon -- which is one of the largest film lists based in the UK, with more than 600 members from over 20 countries. The website receives over 15,000 page impressions each month, and also houses a regularly-updated Writings and News Digest, providing the best cinema links from an ever-growing world wide web, as well as a large resource of bibliographies, journals, and online writings. It is the place to find articles on, and chat about the philosophical capabilities of the moving image: to discuss such cerebral filmmakers such as Kubrick, Lynch, Godard, von Trier, Carax, Marker, Malick, Kieslowski, Sokurov, and Antonioni, and subjects such as the relationship between film and thought, and the experience of time and memory in cinema. Contributers and members include Richard Allen, Jeffrey A. Bell, Warren Buckland, Michael Chanan, Ian Christie, Sean Cubitt, Thomas Elsaesser, Marty Fairbairn, Gregory Flaxman, Cynthia Freeland, Torben Grodal, Samuel Guttenplan, John Izod, Thierry Jutel, Douglas Kellner, Heike Klippel, Laura Marks, Hassan Melehy, Laura Mulvey, Timothy Murray, Martha P.
